Iridium Satellite Phone Chargers
The Iridium satellite phone charger comes as an AC Travel charger, SatStation charger, or Solar Power unit. Note that different Iridium chargers are compatible with different Iridium handsets. Iridium satellite phones can only work with the Iridium satellite network, which provides pole-to-pole coverage. Iridium’s constellation of 66 cross-linked Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites enable shorter transmission paths, lower latency, and stronger signals than GEO satellites from any location.
When to use a Satellite Phone
Satellite phones are independent of terrestrial infrastructures and they are a reliable communications device when you’re in a remote region that renders your smartphone useless. Sat phone signals are mostly unaffected by events on the ground that disrupt cellular networks. If you intend using your satellite phone or a cell phone satellite adapter in an area with no ground network, remember it is just as important to have power so having a satellite phone charger is critical to keep your phone working and avoid the hassle and stress of a dead battery.
Types of Iridium Chargers
AC Travel Chargers
The Iridium 9555 satellite phone charger is compatible with the Iridium 9555/9505A/9575 handsets and provides a rapid charge for best performance. It also allows use of the phone while recharging and usually takes about 3 hours to complete a full battery charge. A separate car charger adapter is also available for the Iridium 9500/9505 phones.
SatStation Chargers
Single- and Four-Bay battery chargers can be used with specific Iridium handsets, but you can mix and match batteries for compatible phone models while charging.
- The Single-Bay holds one Iridium phone battery for recharging.
- The Four-Bay SatStation lets you recharge up to four Iridium phone batteries at the same time.
- It has a dual AC-DC power source and the SatStation bay can be securely fixed with extra vehicle mounting kits.
Solar Powered Chargers
As a guide, a small 6-watt solar panel can recharge a satellite phone in 10 hours of good sunlight. A 12- or 26-watt panel can complete a charge in less time and in cloudier conditions while adding a bit of extra weight to the equipment.
Choose a satellite phone solar charger from Canada Satellite’s range of solar devices:
- The SatStation Foldable Solar Panel charges satellite phones by offering different power outputs: 18 watts, 20 watts, 24 watts, or 40 watts.
- The SolStar i-10 is a very light 10-watt solar charger with optimal sunlight providing the same charge times as an AC Charger. This sat phone charger is weatherproof and UV resistant and includes a 15-foot extension cord and adapter.
- The iNetVu SolarPack is a compact portable unit with the necessary components for a complete solution to power up your flyway antennas or mounted satellite devices. The base unit has a 100-amp hour battery (lead-acid or lithium) and can generate 340 watts of power.
